My watercolor
I started a discussion about the death of a famous artist yesterday.Well, I mentioned that I had done some art, so I wanted to share the picture I painted in high school. It is a watercolor. I'm pretty proud of it, but since I'm taking this with my phone and the glass reflects it could be a better photo.
What painting medium do you use, is it oil color, water colors, etc?
Well, I know how to use many different mediums such as oil paints, acrylic, water color, pastel and crayons, etc. But, I generally prefer oils and acrylics since they're easy to use and it's easy to correct the mistakes that you've made unlike, the water colors and pastel that may damage your painting surfaces. And also because I love the emotions that oils and acrylics can give to my works.Though, I admit that the oils could be harmful to our lungs, since it contains harmful materials such as zinc. So if you can't use oils you may use acrylics which is safe. So, what do you prefer is it oils, acrylic, pastel, water colors? and why?
art..which do you like better? Oil or watercolor?
I like watercolors. Soft colors, and harder to paint with. www.mgcreativearts.com
Do you have knowledge in "another profession" other than what you are doing now?
Like some may know stitching..toys making..enbroidery...electrician work...Bonsai..cell and TV mechanism..something other than your main profession. I love painting with oil paints and whenever i find time i try to make painting.
Cleaning solvents
Working with oil paints we needed a cleaner for class. Mineral spirits really to clean our paletes and brushes. I was in a rush to get supplies and couldn't get the mineral spirits rushed over night because it's flamable. Yes, it will catch flames and they won't let it be shipped over night. So I started looking for alternitives. I found Terpinoid. It's an all natural safe product that has a high citris scent but isn't flamable and is safe for the environment. I like it because it cleans my brushes better and it conditions them really well too.My question is do you prefer using mineral spirits to clean your brushes? If you've heard of Terpinoid, do you prefer it to mineral spirits? Or do you use both?
Cleaning Paint Brushes
I'm taking a basic oil painting class and I don't mind using the oil paints but I really really hate cleaning the brushes. Has anyone else had a problem cleaning their paint brushes? Can you suggest somehow to clean them more easily?
Over the Couch Painting
We needed a painting to match the living room. I decided to use the border as a guide and artistic license. It took a while to decide to use the wall paper border and not create my own landscape... it took a couple of years. It's 3 by 4 feet. It's awaiting a frame to made by hubby. It is in it's final resting spot over the couch. I chose to use oil paints for ths one; it just felt more formal. I had a brand new paint set and brushes. Nothing like the experience of breaking in new art supplies. I don't think I have painted with oils in almost a decade. I started with a pencil drawing and painting over that in burnt sienna. I tried to capture depth, layout, and light verses dark. Then I added in the blues and yellows. I wanted to establish the light source. After this I took a couple of weeks off because life just happens that way. When I got back to painting, I worked on the trees in the background. I tried a paper towel to dab and soften the trees in the back and was very pleased with the atmospheric effect. Next, I worked on the trees in front of the tree line in the back. It's the trees surrounding the campground. I took another...
Do you like to color?
I color. I like it because it is relaxing and easier than painting. I am artistic and need some clean outlet while the kiddos are around. Can you imagine my oil paints? So I stick with this for now. Maybe when they are older I can get back to oil painting. Another bonus is it is a great way to spend time with my kids. We color and talk. It can't get much better than that.
Do Some Things We See Creep Us Out For, Seemingly, No Reason?
I'm going to give you a couple of examples of what I mean.In the first case, there might be more of a reason, as it's a sign of destruction. In the second case, it's more mysterious, because nothing's been ripped, smashed, etc.First case: Does anyone remember oilcloths? They're tablecloths created by layering a mesh area with oil paints to make beautiful and festive tablecloths. The problem is that they're aren't the most sturdy when it comes to maintaining them. That is, if something (plate/cup/saucer/etc.) is hot and/or sticky, it will pull off the oil paint--usually, resulting in a puffy, jagged ring that exposes the mesh part.I remember as I was growing up that I found those "bad spots" unbearable to view and demanded that we go shop for a new oilcloth whenever that happened. Here's the second case--nothing really obvious about the object giving me the creeps. Nothing like its being something scary or gross such as a shrunken head or a decapitated cat. Just a household object. In my case, it was the damper located on the exterior of our fireplace (centered on the bricks right above the opening where the fire was started). It was (to the best of my...
What is the best type of paints for a beginner?
My mom bought me a wonderful art set for my birthday. I am disabled and I needed an outlet when I am on bed rest, so she came up with this and it is wonderful. I simply don't know where to begin. It contains everything; oil paints, water colors, acrylics, pastels, watercolor pencils, colored pencils, canvas, paper, a pallet and a table top easel. I just can't begin! I do not know how to clean up after oil paints, so I figure I had better research before attempting those, but should I use paints or pastels, colored pencils or sketch? I just can't make up my mind.I have a lot of artsy things, from beads to fabric, scrapbooking to computer work and I love to write. I have played with watercolors in the past and include writings with the writings, leaning on the abstract form of a picture. I do not think I can do a detailed image, I shake too much.Any ideas and help would be greatly appreciated. Maybe send me some sites where I can get some ideas. Thanks so much!
