| How many of you are having trouble buying school supplies? | | Why do these schools make the parents buy so many school supplies at the beginning of the year just so they can pass them out to everyone and still have left over by the end of the year? Why cant they just make it to where the parent is responsible for what the child uses and that is it?! I have to spend like $30 alone in school supplies that my son wont even use half of! That is so frustrating especially since we dont have $30 to really spare. | |
| | What type of art do you like? | | I draw and paint and my favorite media is colored pencils. I like to see beautiful drawings in colored pencils and lead pencils. I prefer paintings in acrylics over watercolor and oil. What about you, which media do you like when you go to an art gallery or a museum? | |

| Coloring for Relaxation and for Fun with the Kids | | Grab a crayon and join your kids or grandkids when they are coloring in their favorite color books. Better yet, buy a few for yourself. Coloring is a great way to relax. When my kids were little we would bring out the coloring books and crayons and sit for hours bringing color the pictures. Each of us had a book that we would color from and once we finished a picture, we would trade books. It was an enjoyable time for all of us. | |

| Children's Storybooks | | I've visited so many dead children's book threads today so I thought I'd make my own post in an active book community. I love storybooks and I am an illustrator. Right now I am working with a friend who has her own stories, and I am illustrating them for her. It's loads of fun. I illustrate then paint them in watercolors, or colored pencils. We are excited about getting our book published. I really know nothing about the subject other than my own experiences as a child reading stories, and from illustrating them today. So here are some questions I have and for conversation starters. I will share my artwork and links when I have enough posts to do so. I'm still a newbie even though I joined a long time ago. What advice can people give on getting your story copyrighted and published?
Which is better, to self-publish or go through a publishing company?
What sort of stories do you write, or do your children enjoy the most?
How can one successfully advertise their books?
How do feel about reading your book to children at public shows?
Are you an illustrator as well as an author? Care to share your works?
How do you know what age group you are targeting? (I don't have... | |
| | scared to start painting | | A few years ago my mom bought me an art set. It has pastels, crayons, colored pencils, and watercolor paints. I have visions in my head about the things I'd like to paint, but just can't bring myself to open it all up. I know it's not going to turn out like I want and I'll be disappointed. If you are a painter, what were some of your first paintings of? How did you learn? What would you suggest as a beginners first project? Thanks. | |

| Watercolor Pencils | | I bought some watercolor pencils the other day at the store, and when I brought them home, my wife asked me: "Do you know how to use them?" And, I realized that I did not. Apparently, watercolor pencils are not like regular colored pencils. Here is what it says on the back of the package: "Use Prismacolor Watercolor Pencils to color in broad areas, blend layers of dry color together with water and add fine details. These Watercolor Pencils feature brilliant pigments that can be used wet or dry and which exhibit superior lightfastness." Does anyone have any experience with watercolor pencils? What does it mean that they can be used "wet or dry"? (Thanks in advance!) | |
| | pencil shavings.. | | We have this electric pencil sharpener, but since my son uses colored pencils more than a regular pencil, the shavings are very pretty and colorful..I have thought that these would be good to use as I would for glitter, by gluing onto paper or something to make a colorful and unique art my son can make.. Do you have any other ideas I can use the shavings for? | |
